Double Denim a la George Harrison

Posted August 26, 2016

My love for the double denim look started when I became obsessed with the Beatles in High School, after seeing George Harrison rock the look in various fashions throughout his career. Perhaps his most notable denim on denim get-up was on the cover of Abby Road, the specific inspiration for my outfit above. The shirt is by H&M and the high-wasted jeans are by J Brand. Regardless of labels, however, this outfit is timeless, hip and classic.

Vintage Love at Pattern Bar

One of my favorite things about blogging and photoshoots is the opportunity to dress up. I’ve always had a sweet spot for vintage, and I recently inherited some amazing pieces from the ladies in my dad’s band, The Manhattan Transfer, which range back to the seventies. This shoot at Pattern Bar is part of our collaboration with the LA Passport Program, and creatively we decided to emulate New York high fashion meets the “ladies who lunch” meets Sex and the City, naturally.

My dress is 1980s vintage, I’m guessing, as are the black leather and pearl gloves from the Transfer archives. The hat is from our favorite accessories queen, The Feathered Head, who collects and restores the most amazing hats and head pieces I have ever seen. All this vintage was finally paired with my favorite black lace Stella McCartney stilettos, for a little Carrie pizzaz. Now that’s what I call a class act.

There is an ongoing ethical debate in the fashion world in regards to faux vs. real fur. I am a lifetime vegetarian and prefer to steer from fur products, though I do admittedly wear leather sometimes (I love my booties!). I was gifted a real fur coat a few years back that, while gorgeous, always invoked an uncomfortable feeling every time I put it on. Ashley was in love with it the second she saw it, and showed me her Nasty Gal faux fur coat with a similar vibe. I loved her’s more than mine! So what did we do? Traded coats, of course! I love it when life works out this perfectly.
